Pool Table Room Size
Are you wondering what pool table room size is appropriate for your pool table? Most pool tables can be ordered in 3 sizes: 8 foot (44 x 88), Pro 8 (46 X 92), and 9 foot (50 x 100). The Pro 8 is sometimes referred to as an oversize 8 and the 9 foot is also called tournament size. There are also models available in 7 foot (39 x 78) and these tables are referred to as a bar table.
Will my table fit? This is a major concern for most people looking into pool table room size. And this question is essential prior to choosing a pool table. When buying a Pool or a Snooker table or any type of billiard game table, it is best to start by measuring the size of the room to see if your intended table will fit. If the table is too large, you may not enjoy your game.
Measuring the Space for Your Pool Table
One idea is to draw a plan of the room. You can measure the room at the point where the table should fit. In other words do not measure all the way to your window or fireplace because you dont want your cue stick hitting these obstacles. Positioning a table diagonally in a room is not a good option. This will put the corner pockets near the walls and make for an uncomfortable game.

The question is what playing field dimensions or area is required for each pool table room size. The following playing field dimensions are endorsed by the Billiard Congress of America also known as the BCA. These playing field dimensions are standard in the billiard industry. Tournaments usually play on the 9 ft tables but exceptions can be made as long as the pool table is twice as long as it is wide.
The pool table room size depends on the length of the cue stick used. A standard cue stick is 57 cue stick. The following information outlines the space required according to table and cue size:
- Space required for 9 foot tables: The space required using a Standard Cue Stick (57) is 121 x 164. The minimum space recommended using a shorter cue stick is 12 1 x 16 4.
- Space required for Pro 8 tables: The space required using a standard cue stick is 134 x 172. The space required for a shorter cue stick is 119 x 158.
- Space required for 8 foot Tables: The space required using standard cue stick is 132 x 16 10. For shorter cue sticks, the recommended cue sticks 117 x 154.
- Space required for 7 foot Tables: The standard space required for the 7 foot, or bar size table is 12' 9" x 16'. For shorter cues, the space would need to be11' 2" x 14' 6" .
When choosing your pool table room size, remember that relatively few shots will require the shorter cues. If you have furniture that is low to the crow, the cue can rise above to make the shot. Pool table room size is an important consideration and is dependent on the size of the cue you use. A professional billiard dealer is your best solution in finding the size pool table.
