Are you looking for billiard cue sticks? When choosing cue sticks, there are many things to consider. The size of the shaft, the weight of the stick, and the price are among many things to think about. When buying billiard cue sticks, it often boils down to personal preference.
Tips On Choosing The Right Cue Stick
Trying different billiard cues sticks is always a good idea. Cue stick descriptions are often described as hard, soft, harsh, stiff, forgiving, well-balanced, etc. These descriptions are subjective and difficult to judge. However, there are important characteristics of billiard cue sticks that can be quantified such as the length, weight, balance point, shaft taper, and shaft diameter. And if you are a beginner, you can expect your preferences to change as your game matures.

Ideal Cue Stick Sizes
The standard size of billiard cue sticks is 58" with a balance point that is about 18" from the bottom of the cue. This size works perfectly for most people. Taller people often play with 60" inch billiard cue sticks to accommodate their longer reach, while shorter people seem to prefer 58" and under cues. There are some cue makers and players who feel that a 57" cue is ideal. This is a personal preference. Basically, the ideal size is that which allows you to shoot the balls comfortably with no awkwardness or extra effort to control the cue. That said, 58" and 18-21 oz of weight seems to be what works for the vast majority of players.
The current trend among the professionals is to go lighter with their billiard cue sticks. For example, 19 oz. and even 18 oz. billiard cue sticks are not uncommon among the professionals. The philosophy is that, the lighter the cue, the more the player (and less mass and momentum) can do with the cue.
Maintaining Your Cue Stick
Once you find the billiard cue sticks you are looking for, it is important to maintain them. If you don't have one, get a case that will protect your billiard cue sticks from humidity. Moisture is one of the main causes of cue warping. Hard cases give better protection than soft cases. Store your case upright, not lying down. If it's a soft case, hang it on a nail in your closet.
