4. EXAMINE THE FRAME. Is the frame preassembled at the factory and numbered?
5. CHECK THE CLOTH. Is the cloth stapled on the wood slate frames?
6. FEEL THE RAILS. Are there exposed screws anywhere visible on the pool table?
7. CHECK THE BLIND PANELS. Are they securely mounted? Smoothly finished?
8. ASK ABOUT THE MATERIALS. Is there any particle board in the table?
9. EXAMINE THE SIGHTS. Are they real Mother of Pearl? is the finish rail silky and uniform?
10. ROLL A BALL. Does the table have a quiet lively bounce?
11. ASK ABOUT THE INSTALLATION. Does the dealer contract out his setup?

TABLE MAINTENANCE
CARE OF THE CABINET
Wood finishes need to be dusted frequently. To restore the original luster of the wood use a non-residue producing dusting agent such as a lemon oil.
Never use a glass cleaner on wood surfaces. The ammonia in glass cleaners can chemically react on the finish.
High or low humidity extremes can cause wood to warp and crack over time. Controlling the humidity with a humidifier or dehumidifier will help.
Your finish is durable but it is best to not sit ashtrays or drinks on the rails. If a spill does occur be sure to wipe it up quickly.
CARE OF THE CLOTH
Until it is broken in a new cloth can affect the roll of the ball. This is normal. Proper brushing of the table will directly affect the playing quality. Always begin brushing your table from the head (nameplate) end. Brush in straight strokes to the end of the table. Do not use a circular or scrubbing motion. Be sure to brush under the cushion overhang.
To protect your cloth always cover the table when not in use. This helps to keep your table free from dust and offers protection against accidental damage and fading of the cloth color.
Chalk is a grinding agent so try to avoid chalking your cue over the table.
CARE OF THE POCKETS
Protect your leather pockets from heat, direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
To keep the pockets looking good they should be cleaned once a year with saddle soap or a leather cleaner and dressing.
Do not rest your cue on the pocket when making a shot.
When storing balls in the pockets be sure they are evenly distributed in all the pockets. Storing balls in the pockets helps to keep the leather supple.
CARE OF ACCESSORIES
Pool balls can be cleaned with a mild household degreaser. Dry and polish with a clean soft cloth. Stubborn stains can be removed with a non-abrasive cleanser.
For a dazzling shine after cleaning, apply paste wax and buff to a bright luster.
Cues should always be stored upright in a wall rack. Be sure to locate your rack away from doors, windows and heat registers. Cues can be cleaned as needed with a damp rag and mild soap.
LIGHTING
Proper lighting of the playing area is essential. Light should be sufficient to eliminate shadows on the playing surface. A general rule of thumb is the light should be hung so the bottom of the fixture is at eye level.
MOVING YOUR TABLE
Never try to move your table even a few inches by yourself. Even an inch can cause a table to become off level.
Trust only your authorized A. E. Schmidt technician for professional help.

-Paula Thomas Grimaldi Billiards
We are very particular about what we choose to sell in new tables alongside our antiques and feel that A.E. Schmidt tables are the most well-constructed, nicest looking and finest playing on the market today. Their tables are built of good material with honest craftsmanship, not of flimsy pretense or the deception of perceived quality. I expect many of the A.E. Schmidt tables will still be around in another 100 years.
