This is not your ordinary dining table.
The concept of using a pool table in this dual purpose dining table is not new – Remember the Beverly Hillbillies? In the past, it has been an option to buy a top to fit over a conventional pool table. The problem is that those are too tall to eat comfortably, compounded by the fact that your knees will bump into the frame of the table. So this is a huge compromise.
In Europe and China, they have produced Diner/Pool Table combinations for many years. Some are very good, others have points of concerns. When deciding to purchase one of those, there are trouble points to look out for
- Is it 1 piece slate? If it is, run. More dealers around the country will not touch these, for good reason. They are highly breakable and not always accessible to the locations they need to go to. Can you imagine taking a 7 ft, 1 piece slate anywhere that has steps or an elevator?
- Many do not have regulation size pool balls or pockets – they are smaller, not too dissimilar in size from the balls that come with toy tables.
- The height to the bottom of the frame is less than 24 inches – that is not enough!
- Since they come from overseas and are not readily stocked by anyone in the U.S. at this point, expect a minimum of 30 days for replacement parts if a problem does arrive.
